A mental health nurse has died after contracting Covid-19, a hospital trust has confirmed.

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said Gladys Mujajati, from Littleover in Derbyshire, died in hospital earlier this week.

The 46-year-old had an underlying health condition “and had stepped away from front-line duties in recent weeks”, a spokesman said.

Trust chief executive Ifti Majid said staff were “devastated by her loss”.

Confirmation of Ms Mujajati’s death comes a day after a pregnant nurse was confirmed to have died after contracting Covid-19 in Bedfordshire.

The deaths of 27 NHS workers with coronavirus have been verified since the beginning of the pandemic.

Paying tribute to Ms Mujajati, Mr Majid said she was “a warm and caring individual” who was known for “showing true compassion and empathy”.

“Gladys had a big heart and colleagues have talked about how she always had a smile on her face,” he said.

“It is clear that in Gladys we have lost a fantastic nurse, colleague and friend.” – BBC
